Devil May Cry at TGS
Capcom wasn't about to let Konami hog all the PlayStation 3 attention to itself with Metal Gear Solid 4. Expanding upon one of its E3 PS3 surprises, Capcom has properly unveiled Devil May Cry 3 via the latest issue of Famitsu, a couple of days prior to the start of the Tokyo Game Show.
Proper unveiling may not be the best way to describe the three pages of the magazine that are devoted to the title. Surprisingly little is revealed on the game, with the included images having to do most of the talking. And they tell quite a story. We're not sure if what we're looking at is concept targets or real screenshots captured from PS3 hardware, but the images have all the detail and image quality of Capcom's recent Resident Evil 5 next generation screenshots.
The new Dante is, in particular, one of the most detailed characters we've ever seen in a game. In addition to flowing hair and clothes, Capcom is apparently placing a lot of emphasis on his lips and facial expressions. The screenshots in the magazine share a number of different expressions from angry grunts to strange pucker expressions. Dante somehow manages to be even cooler than he was before.
As far as gameplay is concerned, Capcom is planning a continuation of the mission-based setup of previous titles. The game will retain the basics of previous Devil May Cry games while offering new moves and skills. Dante will, of course, retain his twin guns and long sword.
Based on the names behind the game, we can hopefully expect quite a bit from Devil May Cry 4. The game's producer is Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who's produced a string of quality titles of late, most recently having worked on Sengoku Basara. The game's director is Hideaki Itsuno who also served as director on Devil May Cry 3 and the Justice Gakuen.
We'll get a chance to look at Devil May Cry 4 in motion on Friday when the Tokyo Game Show opens its doors, but we won't count on seeing the game spinning around in our PS3s anytime soon. Devil May Cry is currently just 5% complete and is being listed with an unspecified release date.
