Valve Software Far from Impressed with Xbox 360
Gabe Newell, founder of Valve Software, has apparently gone on record in the latest issue of US games magazine Computer Gaming World to poke Microsoft in the eye over Vista - its new PC operating system - and probably more importantly, its next-gen venture the Xbox 360.
On the subject of Vista, Newell, clearly not impressed said: ""Look, I spoke to some people at Microsoft, and as I said, I can't point to a single feature in Vista that I care about that solves problems for us at all." Hardly the ringing endorsement Microsoft would be seeking from one of the industry's leading PC developers. But Newell clearly hadn't finished, as he went on to add an almighty dissing for Microsoft's next-gen gaming platform.
"I had the same conversation with the Xbox 360 guys. It's like, Xbox 360 doesn't make my life any better, and in fact, it makes it a lot worse, as you're telling me I can't count on having a hard drive."
Not exactly the sweet words and overwhelming praise that seem to have been heaped on the machine elsewhere, but we're figuring that most people will probably opt for the 360 pack which does include a HD, or figure to add one in later.
Still, even with an Xbox version of Half-Life 2 on the way this year and Half-Life 3 sometimes tipped to be doing a Halo and heading straight to Xbox 360 (which we have to say is strictly wild rumour and speculation), Newell clearly doesn't feel he needs to hold back on his frustrations with the next-gen machine.
